Want to setup ReadyNAS 10400 as a drive to on Macintosh Desktop. Simple? Apparently not.

The RN104 is a network storage device, so it is attached to your home network via ethernet. You set up network shares (folders) on the NAS that you then access with Finder. https://kb.netgear.com/21515/How-do-I-access-a-ReadyNAS-share-with-a-Mac
