My recollection is that the v2 doesn't handle GPT-formatted USB drives. If that is the case, reformatting it into 2 partitions would be the only option. Though that is an annoying restriction, since the unit does understand GPT for internal drives.
Alternatively, you could share it with another device (a PC for instance, or a maybe router that has USB drive support).
