WD20EARS is end of line replacment is WD20EARX

Hi

The Western Digital WD20EARS is now considered end of line, it's direct replacement is the WD20EARX which is exactly the same except it is a 6GB/sec interface (SATA3) as opposed to 3GB/sec (SATA 2) -

The other drives are becoming more difficult to get or are not in the same price range, due to rotational speed etc.

I own 3 NV+ Units, which it appears are becoming EOL or are becoming EOL shortly. As the NV+ isn't going to be certified for use with 3TB drives or larger. Can we expect currently available 2TB drives to be added to the hardware compatibility list for the NV+ in the future , or is that list now essentially frozen for that model?

  • Seagate ST2000DL003 is quite recent 2TB "green" model (with SATA 6Gbit and 5900 RPM) which is officially supported with Sparc-based NAS devices like Duo or NV+. It should be easily available.

    I don't see the WD20EARX on any ReadyNAS compatibility list yet. As to your statement "exactly the same except it is a 6GB/sec interface (SATA3)...", it's possible there's under the hood differences. I would stick to options available on the compatibility list.
