As a follow-up: we added a Hitachi Ultrastar and experienced the same kinds of expansion problems that we did with the WD RE4-GP drive. I'm wondering if this is related to the 10gbe rather than to a specific drive. We've connected the device via single gigabit internet; we'll see if this improves reliability.
