Which ReadyNAS Model for iTunes HD Movie Sharing?
Hi, I'm looking to buy a ReadyNAS mainly for sharing an iTunes movie library at home, plus using it for TimeMachine on three Macs. Many of the movies are 1080p - is there any practical difference between the 104 and 204 in terms of iTunes sharing / streaming capability? Thanks.

Are these movies purchased from iTunes? The iTunes server on the NAS works with DRM free content only.
Yes, if there is DRM you'll need the Apple iTunes, which doesn't run on linux. Though you can still put the media on the NAS (even though iTunes itself needs to run on a mac or PC).
Also the NAS itunes server doesn't support "home sharing", so it cannot stream to Apple TV, iPhone, or iPad. Though plex can (if the apple TV is 4th generation).

Streaming video both of those should work fine, but I would lean towards the RN204.
I have both an RN102 and an RN202, and I agree. The RN100 is fast enough for streaming, but can bog down on other tasks. The RN204 is worth the extra cost. The RN214 is faster still, so check the price on that also.

Thanks both, very useful. The movies are my own rips so no DRM, but I wasn't aware ReadyNAS doesn't support Home Sharing. I have an ATV4 so can use the PLEX app instead I guess. Might go with the 2xx range. Thanks again, as the Netgear website isn't a lot of help in choosing.
