X-RAID2 and X-RAID compatibility
My old ReadyNas NV+ just died. It has been running permanently for the last 4 years or so. I had it shutdown to move it to a new location, and now it is not turning on anymore. I assume that the power supply died. Of course all my data is on the HDDs which were formatted with X-RAID.
I have 3x1TB drives in the NAS. They are all Seagate Barracude ST31000528AS drives.
Of course I want to recover my data and replace the NAS. I am considering purchasing the ReadyNAS NV+ 2. I read that it uses X-RAID2 technology, and I am wondering about how compatible are X-RAID and X-RAID2? When I stick my drives into the ReadyNAS NV+ 2 can I expect them to work and that I have access to my data again? Or is there a different alternative to the ReadyNAS NV+ 2?
Once I know which ReadyNAS can recover my data, I will certainly order one.

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThe RAID format is different so know you cannot migrate your disks across to the NV+ v2.
If you get a replacement NV+ to migrate your array across you would need to buy another v1: http://www.rnasguide.com/2012/01/09/how-to-tell-whether-i-have-a-duo-v1-or-duo-v2-or-nv-v1-or-nv-v2/ - cwietholtAspirantThank you for the quick reply. That certainly is rather unfortunate. Fortunately, v1 is still available.
- mikel51AspirantNetgear can sell you a new power supply for 18.95 + 7.00 shipping. Then you can continue to use the old RAID and migrate data to a new NAS at your leisure. I did this when my old NV died. Its up and running like a charm. I am thinking about a new NAS and then keeping the old NV as a backup to the new NAS
