Application Initialization error
When I start ReadyNAS Remote I get error message "Application Initialization error" with buttons "Resatr Application" or "Quit".
I have tried the following:
* Reinstall the program.
* XP computer at work (behind firewall)
* Vista computer at work (behind firewall)
* Vista computer using 3G-modem (not using firewall at work)
* Running application as administrator on Vista computer using 3G-modem
I have created a ReadyNAS Remote account. When I tell the application to send my userid I actually get 2 user IDs connected to the same e-mail adress, is this a problem? (Only 1 of these IDs are allowed access to the disk, but I never get this far).
If I move the mouse over the icon it says "ReadyNas Remote (Offline) - Registering mode..."
I do have access to internet. On my portable Vista computer I have turned off both the Windows firewall and McAfee firewall, still it fails in Step 1 on this page: http://www.readynas.com/?p=1435
I never get to login state:

- rrreedAspirantThanks to some work by cap1, ReadyNAS Remote is up and running for me at work :D . The problem was that my work PC is not configured to do DNS lookups, and relies on the proxy server to do them, while ReadyNAS Remote apparently is expecting the opposite. The work around was to make sure ReadyNAS Remote was correctly configured for the proxy server, and to add two lines to the C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file (in Windows XP Pro, at least):
207.211.82.213 remote2.readynas.com
I've mapped a network drive to my iTunes library share in ReadyNAS Remote, and I'm seeing if iTunes here will accept the share as just another library. Will update again once I see how that works.
207.211.82.215 remote.readynas.com
Update: It looks like it works, but since the iTunes library was created on a Mac, there's no iTunes Library.itl file in the share. Since that's the file the Windows version of iTunes is looking for, I'll have to see if I can export the library file at home, and reload it here next week. - parkercAspirantHi
I get the same error..
I'm trying to use the ReadyNas Remote on my work PC, which as you would expect from a legal firm is quite well locked down.
I've added the DNS entries to the LM host, but that has not helped and originally I was prompted about adding proxy details which I did (as best I can but now that prompt does not come up again and I can't find a way to configure the application - Anyone know where I should go ?
I can see my profile https://remote.readynas.com/login.jsp and login no problem, so I guess the browser can access the site, but the application keeps failing and giving me the Application Initialization error, with only the option to quit or restart, both of which do not help me troubleshoot any settings.. it would be good to see a step by step view so I can see where (exactly) it fails.
Any help would be appreciated..
Using WinXP, IE7 - jannouwensAspirantI have experienced the same error message (error code 3).
In my case it was sufficient to go to start, all programs, NETGEAR ReadyNas, ReadyNas remote. This brought me to the account registration phase.
A search on the Netgear website did not lead to ANY reference on this point, dissapointing. - cap1AspirantThis error code means on the drivers did not get loaded...can you try to reboot the machine and see if that helps?
- j_manAspirantI also have this problem. I've tried it on my laptop with W7 and no problems, but now I'm at work (XP64 SP2) I get this error when readynas remote tries to start. I have uninstalled, re-installed and re-started, but all without any joy.
J. - j_manAspirantHi,
Has no-one else got any suggstions on how this can be fixed?
I've attached a screenshot of the error message I get when I try to start ReadyNas Remote on an XP sp2 machine.
Josh.
- cap1AspirantCan you try to Reboot your XP machine and try again? Have you tried to uninstall and reinstall? You get this error if one of the services did not register correctly. If that does not work please PM me and we can have a support session and I can have a look.
You are running the latest version?
https://remote.readynas.com/download.html - j_manAspirantOK, yes, I've tried this, re-installing form your link re-booting and it is still the same. I've sent you a message.
Kind regards,
J. - j_manAspirantOK,
Jeff has fixed it. I will let him explain the nitty gritty of it all but it all seems to be working now
Josh. - cap1AspirantOK, it seems in the latest version of Remote it is not registering services correctly for XP 64. The work around is as follows:
1. Install Remote
2. Install Leaf - http://www.leafnetworks.net/download.html
The old Leaf version registers the services correctly and these services are shared with Remote.
