Cannot copy files from Transmission > Downloads folder
Since this morning, I cannot copy anything from the Transmission > Downloads folder to my Mac without the Finder giving me a SBBoD and then the share disconnecting with one of the following errors:
The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data in “document-x.pdf” can’t be read or written.
(Error code -36)
The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -8003).
My RN102 is only about a month or so old and I have not really dared to mess with any settings which I am absolutely certain about and I have not changed anything to do with Transmission since I first installed it apart from switch the Speed Limit off and on as mentioned in another thread. The only thing I have done differently is add a torrent file using Safari on my iPad but some of the files which won't copy were added weeks ago.

- LeofwineTutorThis problem is not consistent but is getting very annoying. I have discovered that it is not all files - some copy, some don't and it has little relation to their file type or anything else that I have noticed.
When it happens it causes the Transmission share unmount and very often it causes the Mac Finder to crash after about five minutes of SBBoD and it will not relaunch requiring a Mac reboot.
The only solution is to reboot the RN102 which then presents other problems which have been documented in another thread regarding Time Machine.
I tried connecting with AFP but when I do, the Transmission > Downloads window never populates and the SBBoD starts and then the finder needs to be restarted but doesn't, i.e. no desktop and no icons - the finder no longer appears in the application switcher (cmd-tab). Clicking on the Dock Finder icon does not make the Finder launch and the only thing to do is reboot the Mac.
If it wasn't for the fact that rebooting the RN102, I'd suspect it was a Mac problem but I think it's a permissions problem on the RN102 and I can't find a way of viewing permissions.
This is really not much good and very annoying. - LeofwineTutorWow!
Whilst I was typing the last post, the Finder crashed again and so it was not running for about ten minutes and I was preparing to reboot after I finished. But I decided to look at the ReadyNAS web interface before I did and found the Shares page and clicked on Transmission > Settings, which I had not seen before.
I clicked File Access > Reset > Reset Permissions and the moment that the message came up saying that it was complete, the Finder restarted. However, the file still refuses to copy and the Finder still crashes. Incidentally, when I alt-ctrl-esc to Force Quit Applications, there are two instances of the Finder at the bottom (there were none when the finder refused to restart.
So, I have learned something but this annoying problem remains. - LeofwineTutorCorrection: rebooting the RN102 no longer fixes the problem.
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredHow did you install the Transmission app? There is a known bug with the version currently on apps.readynas.com. See http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=153&t=76617
The new version 3.00.8 does not have the bug.
Have you loaded much data on the NAS yet? - LeofwineTutorI have version 2.82 (3.0.0.6) which is what the RN102 installed when I configured it. I'm not sure how to update apps but I had naively assumed that the OS did it quasi-automatically.
I have about 500GB used on 2TB (1.81TB) drives which is mainly my Time Machine backup. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredFor this problem, backing up your data, doing a factory reset (wipes all data, settings, everything) and restoring your data from backup would be best.
The 3.00.8 version can be installed via the Upload button on the Apps tab of the Dashboard - LeofwineTutorI figured that out before you replied and already updated.
My initial Time Machine backup took over 48 hours so I don't fancy doing that.
If 3.0.0.8 has been available since August and this is a known issue, why does v. 3.0.0.6 get installed? - LeofwineTutorExcept that having reported that Transmission 3.0.0.8 was installed, I found that no version of Transmission was then installed. I have just tried again and it seems to have worked.
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee Retired3.0.0.8 is going through our app qualification process.
- LeofwineTutorHow long does that take? It's been almost six months for an app which, according to the link you posted, could feasibly threaten the security of the entire device.
Sounds to me like 3.0.0.6 should have gone through a disqualification process rather sooner instead of being installed by default.
