"Connection failed" via Mac OS X

Firstly in the properties for Remote on your Mac have you configured it to use CIFS or AFP?
Secondly after logging into Remote when you click to connect to your Mac you should be prompted to enter the credentials you would use if you were on the same LAN as the NAS.
Thirdly the 5.XXX.XXX.XXX IP address is the IP address of the NAS on the ReadyNAS Remote VPN.
Also are you testing this on the same LAN as the NAS or at a remote site?
So connections from the iPhone work fine?
I have found 1.0.27 to sometimes work for me and at other times not. There's still something not quite right with it, I think.
