Help! Stream from NAS to iPad with AirVideo App?
Hi,
I just got my NAS set up and thought it would be great to wifi stream video to my iPad,
I installed the app on the pad but it asks me for a IP address (so I enter that of the NAS) it also asks for a port? what do i use?
I know doubt have got this all wrong and there's probably an easier way of streaming to the pad,
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Oh and Happy new year to one and All.
Best Regards

- jobespierreAspirantI have tried .mkv, .avi in standard resolution and HD (480 and 720). Does not make a big difference what file I use, the lag is the same. It is for sure the transcoding, because streaming a .mp4 file 720p without live conversion works fine.
I was just wondering if anybody else has this issue, with the READYNAS ULTRA 4?
Maybe I can enlarge the buffer size? - DuvelAspirantI'vegot the same issue here. All seems to work well, but the video has to buffer every few seconds. I get better results with oplayer HD for the moment than with airplayer. What am i doping wrong?
Nas is an Ultra 4 too and i work with the 1.8.0.0 sw for airvideo and ffmpeg. I try to stream to a iPad 3th generation. Any help is most welcome too! - rossp1AspirantHi, Has anyone got the property
folders = Media:/c/media/Videos
changed. My videos are not in this place and I have tried
folders = Video:/c/Video,TV:/c/TV
and restarted the app. This does not seem to work and it still goes to /c/media/Videos for the media.
airvideo = 2 beta 6
ffmpeg = 1.3 - DuvelAspirantHi,
Restarting the app won't help to solve your problem, just restart the nas! - prometheus1Aspirantsame issue here ultra 4 seems a little underpowered for air video :(
- btaroliProdigyThe advice I've seen consistently for those who want to transcode, esp for 720 or 1080... get a Pro. The Ultra's may not be able to keep up...
- jobespierreAspirantCan anybody advise on the minimum specs for a NAS needed for transcoding 720 and up strait from the NAS using Air Video?
Alternatively, is there any options available to upgrade my readyNAS Ultra 4 to match these specs? - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredFor 720p you'd want the Ultra 6 Plus or better. For 1080p you'd want the Pro 6. Take a look at http://www.plexapp.com/linux/linux-pms-download.php and http://www.readynas.com/plex
- firebloodAspiranthello, i've tested air video oldest ver.(now on v2.4.63, ffmpeg v1.3)
on 2 different readynas 2100 v1, and works a bit different on ios then android
most of all the buffering happends either because the network speed is low between the device and router/Ap .. or the Cpu on NAS is slow. (the only fix for this is to reduce quality inside application on the device). Also take in consideration the ffmpeg version (i think the older ones work better not shure gonna continue testing).
as for the config file - this is how it looks like on mine:
path.ffmpeg = ./AirVideo/ffmpeg (i used to change paths just to test different versions)
path.mp4creator = /usr/local/bin/mp4creator
path.faac = /usr/local/bin/faac
password =
subtitles.encoding = windows-1250
subtitles.font = Verdana
folders = Media:/c/media/Videos, BitTorrent:/c/media/BitTorrent,
here is to help understand (i saw it was a lost of confusion) :
BitTorrent:/c/media/BitTorrent,--- here as example media is the main folder wich contains all the subfolders so logically if u want the server to read all the subfolders jus make'it Media:/c/media,
the first word b4 the : its the name u give to the folder u'r gonna share.
for me worked without rebooting the nas'es (if still not working what else can u do :), )
tested on ipad with latest pro airvideo version and free version.
tested on android with xplayer known as Mirage (discontinued dont know 4 what reason), tried to find a good free app to work with this server a long time but none of them worked.
there you go ..i hope it can be helpful 4 anyone.
a BIG Thanks 4 the developers.
