Help! Stream from NAS to iPad with AirVideo App?
Hi,
I just got my NAS set up and thought it would be great to wifi stream video to my iPad,
I installed the app on the pad but it asks me for a IP address (so I enter that of the NAS) it also asks for a port? what do i use?
I know doubt have got this all wrong and there's probably an easier way of streaming to the pad,
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Oh and Happy new year to one and All.
Best Regards

I have been trying for the past few hours to set up air video to play on my Ready Nas Ultra 2. I am able to open air video and have it connect to the server and then the blank media file is all that shows up.
I understand that to fix this, I need to change the readynas.properties file to the folder where my media is stored.
I am not experienced with SSH protocols but understand that this is the way to fix this problem.
Would you mind answering the following questions for me:
1. I have downloaded the SSH add on for the Ready Nas and rebooted after installing. What program should I use on the Apple laptop to access the SSH - Terminal?
2. What is the exact sequence to enter into terminal:
\\yournasip\webroot\AirVideo - I have tried entering this but it does not work. However, I am afraid this might be because I have the IP address wrong. Where would I find the correct IP address for the server?
3. Once accessing the properties file, should I just change it to the name of the folder where the media is stored. Also, what should the permission/shares be set to for this folder ?
Thank you for all the help. I really appreciate it. - booyah24AspirantQuestion.. .are you able to remotely access airvideo on your readynas? The pc/mac client has this capability and I would love to be able to use it while I'm traveling. I've tried plex and like others dont feel its up to par.
- mogulmanTutorI stream to my NookColor, PC and Windows Phone and I don't use anything other than the web server on my ReadyNAS Duo. I enabled WebDAV on the NAS. First I convert the video to a format compatible with the device. This is mp4 basic. I use DVD Catalyst. It works great, automatically adjusts the volume for mobile devices and is cheap. Next the mp4 file needs to be in FastStart format. This means the header information needs to be at the beginning of the file. It seems this is the default now for DVD Catalyst. If you have existing mp4s there is a free app that will do this (google faststart and mp4). I convert my videos at 800Kbs and my internet provider does not provide enough upload bandwidth to be able to stream to the internet. If you reduce the size and video rate you may be able to do it.
To test this out go to archive.org and select a Moving Image. Most videos have a 512Kbs MPEG4 format. If it plays on the iPad this should work.
To view it on the PC I use VLC. I go to the NAS website location and get a file list of movies. Right click on the movie and copy the link location. Paste the link in VLC under Open Network Location. - EddosAspirant

So, what you are saying here is that the off-line conversion is not available, at all?
What a shame. What would you need to make this working? - Rolando11Aspirantsame problem here. Is there a way to get mp4creator?
Thanks! - zmalexAspirant

had the same issue here showing only invalid files, but was able to fix it, at least for me :-)
This is the original ffmpeg path entry in the file /c/webroot/AirVideo/readynas.properties
path.ffmpeg = ./AirVideo/ffmpeg
This file is available in this directory, but nevertheless the ffmpeg plugin installed the ffmpeg to /usr/local/bin/ffmpeg
So I changed the path entry to
path.ffmpeg = /usr/local/bin/ffmpeg
and after a restart of the plugin I'm happy :D
Thank you so much for sharing this!! I did the same that you described and voila, it works!!! Finally! :) Thank you for your help!
This fix also worked for me. However the two ffmpeg version seem to be different.
/usr/local/bin/ffmpeg - 8302976 2012-03-31 08:27
./AirVideo/ffmpeg - 7973448 2010-10-29 22:35
I'm using a Ultra 4 Plus with RAIDiator 4.2.19
@Super-poussin: Any thoughts on this? - jobespierreAspirantHi,
I have a readyNAS Ultra 4. I installed airvideo add-on 2.0 and ffmpeg for 2.0.
After edit properties file the folders with my media files became visible (no invalid tag) in the iPhone/ipad app.
the problem however: When I play a video, there seems to be a buffering problem, as for all video formats after playing for 5 sec playback will stutter and needs to rebuffer.
Any thoughts on how to fix this? Anyone experienced the same issue?
thanx for all the hard work and your answers. - Sounds like AirVideo is transcoding on your underpowered NAS.
What type of video files are you trying to play? What resolution?
