iredmail
Hi,
Can anyone tell me how to use this app - specifically how to logon? The authors web site says that logon accounts are created at install, but the install package is silent for the readynas. I have a logon screen and no accounts to get me in to do anything.
Maybe the person who listed this app for download can help please?

- AchjeeAspirantI got the same thing.. Installed iredmail.. now it asks for a userid and a password
- You got further than I could.
I never got it to install properly, it just failed constantly saying installation failed. - xeltrosApprenticeMaybe it used one of the already created accounts ? or admin/password, admin/admin combo.Did you try that ? Idon't use this so can't help further.
- nwrInitiatewell, I found it. And think a lot about good documentation which is not in ReadyNAS apps.
So, in my case, username = "postmaster@iredadmin.com", password = "$1$DZsJmM8J$kZVmvEJjahAa1S9njxDzb0"
You can find it in mysql_vmail.sql after install:root@RN102:~# cat /usr/share/apache2/iRedAdmin-0.2.2/docs/samples/mysql_vmail.sql
and you will see:/* Add your first normal user. */
INSERT IGNORE INTO mailbox (username, password, name, maildir, quota, domain, isadmin, isglobaladmin, created) VALUES ("postmaster@iredadmin.com","$1$DZsJmM8J$kZVmvEJjahAa1S9njxDzb0", - phillilAspirantwho would make an app available to install, but not allow anyone to use it??
Utterly ridiculous
By the lack of respsonse/help on this thread, I guess netgear or the developer aren't bothered. - chris2172AspirantThanks to NWR.
I managed to Install this app.
Went to MYSQL
Expand Database "vmail"
Browse "mailbox"
SELECT *
FROM `mailbox`
LIMIT 0 , 30
This will reveal the Username & Password.
Create Your Domain With user & Make it Global Admin
Log in as your New user
Remove iredadmin.com
Note: I had to reset MYSQL root without password to allow install (Please remember to assign a root password again after) - SylphideTutorWhy is it so complicated?
A user friendly interface for mail / DNS / Websites would be much better. I cannot understand why Netgear team put these (not working by default) Opensources plugins instead of a nice and easy GUI (like Synology?).
I am a Readynas 312 buyer, I had to configure all from SSH. Not sure every new buyer wants to do it this way... - xeltrosApprenticeAs far as I know, those are not Netgear add ons. By default ReadyNAS do not provide mail or DNS server. What you are speaking about is a developer plugin that has been published by Netgear.
So if you have something to tell about this app, you should speak to the developer, Netgear just checked it wouldn't hurt the NAS.
As for not having DNS / Mail by default, that's a choice. Synology interface is great in many ways, but it is also not the most productive out there. How many clics do you have to do to get something working on Synology ? More over the pricing of the units is not the same. I've found Synology models are often more expensive, you pay the premium for the OS and support because hardware itself is quite close. Netgear chose to have a less potent but clearer interface and then to add plugins on it. This lets you do virtually anything you want, do not forget that you have a full debian here, while sinology has a stripped down OS. So what Synology doesn't give you out of the box you can't have as easily.
It all comes down to choices, each brand has its own course and I honestly can't say which is better. What I can say however is that Synology is more complete out of the box and that the interface feels beautiful whereas Netgear's looks more professional and is easier to apprehend for non-NAS users (IMO). - SylphideTutorYes exactly, I am asking why Netgear is validating not working opensource plugin instead of developing user firendly ones. DNS/Websites/Mail are basic services and essential for every NAS.
Sure, Synology has maybe more software features but the hardware is not good enough for me. - xeltrosApprenticeI found Netgear and Synology had pretty much the same hardware for consumers. Maybe not for pro products.
So your question is not why it is not integrated to the interface but rather why Netgear didn't do it's own plugins like they did for the antivirus, syslog or radius ? If so, I have no answer for you. Maybe they had a specific roadmap to follow and will integrate things later (with 6.2 ? ) but wanted basic functions to work and be tested extensively before they did. Maybe they just didn't have enough people to do it (they clearly have the skills). Maybe they thought of it as a "not important" thing. Mail and DNS can be complicated things to implement if they want to do home made versions with full integration within the OS (when a client connects to the NAS the DNS gets updated, mail synchronization across ReadyNAS units, Personnalized web interface...). Maybe they are cutting deals with other manufacturers like zimbra ? I don't know.
I do know that they forgot to integrate some stuff like disk spin down which makes me think they release their OS in a hurry and wanted to do the basics first but do it well. I believe they have good surprises for us in 6.2.0 but since I have no more insight than you do, I just can't be sure.
