NewCS on ReadyNAS DUO!
Hi all,
I dont know if this is the right place to post but...
I managed to get my hands on a NewCS verision compiled for ReadyNas. It seems to be working all right exept the Kernel for ReadyNAS does not have "Serial Device Convertor" compiled so my Phoenix USB readers never get mapped to tty\USB\x .
I have read in some forums and it seems to be 2 missing for this to work.
usbserial
ftdi_sio
Someone know how to compile these files for the ReadyNas, someone know where to find information about this?

Thanks SkyWalker!
If you want to run NewCS on ReadyNAS
- Download newcs_readynas.rar from http://rapidshare.com/files/191283875/newcs_readynas.rar.html (direct link)
- Unrar them /usr/local/bin
- Run chmod 775 -X newcs, start
- Run insmod usbserial.ko
- Run insmod ftdi_sio.ko
- Start NewCS with ./newcs -c newcs.xml (or just ./start)
Then log in at http://your_nas_ip:9999
Username: newcs
Password: newcs
Enjoy! - AndersEAspirantHi! I have put the news directory under /usr/local/bin and when I run chmod 775 -X newcs, start I get the answer
NasServer:/usr/local/bin/newcs# chmod 775 -X newcs, start
chmod: getting attributes of `775': No such file or directory
chmod: getting attributes of `newcs,': No such file or direct
NasServer:/usr/local/bin/newcs#
Also when i run insmod fdti_sio.ko i get thisNasServer:/usr/local/bin/newcs# insmod fdti_sio.ko
insmod: can't read 'fdti_sio.ko': No such file or directory
NasServer:/usr/local/bin/newcs#
Is it possible for the pros to see what's wrong?
bstrgdrds Anders - BinksAspirantWhat is NewCS for?
I did some looking around; and about all I can figure is that it's got something to do with satellite TV. - chirpaLuminary

Try just single chmod commands like 'chmod 755 newcs' and 'chmod 755 start'.
Did you download the two listed modules do that same directory? You can't insmod a module that doesn't exist. Try using wget to download those two files first. - AndersEAspirantTnx That worked. I didn't however get my card reader to start in phoenix mode but that's another story.
Anders - master64AspirantHi all,
First of all i beg your pardon if i'm not in the right place to post this question...
I tried to install newCS on my ReadyNAS PRO.
I saw that this files are compiled for the ReadyNAS DUO but i hope that this could be ok also for my ReadyNAS PRO...
but may be i'm wrong...standing on the result i had...
I follow the instructions posted before; i create a new directory called newcs1 inside the directory usr/local/bin then i put all the files inside.
nas_1:/usr/local/bin/newcs1#
ls -la
total 1428
drwxr-sr-x 2 root staff 4096 2009-05-06 00:02 .
drwxrwsr-x 3 root staff 4096 2009-05-06 00:04 ..
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root staff 112538 2009-05-06 00:02 ftdi_sio.ko
-rwxrwxr-x 1 root staff 816024 2009-05-06 00:02 newcs
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root staff 1635 2009-05-06 00:02 newcs.xml
-rwxrwxr-x 1 root staff 221 2009-05-06 00:02 start
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root staff 496947 2009-05-06 00:02 usbserial.ko
launching the commands i saw in the previous post i had the followings error messages:
nas_1:/usr/local/bin/newcs1# insmod usbserial.ko
insmod: error inserting 'usbserial.ko': -1 Invalid module format
nas_1:/usr/local/bin/newcs1#
nas_1:/usr/local/bin/newcs1# insmod ftdsi_sio.ko
insmod: can't read 'ftdsi_sio.ko': No such file or directory
nas_1:/usr/local/bin/newcs1#
nas_1:/usr/local/bin/newcs1# ./newcs -c newcs.xml
-bash: ./newcs: cannot execute binary file
nas_1:/usr/local/bin/newcs1#
I hope that someone may have time to dedicate in helping me to solve this problem...and i'll thank you all.
Have a nice day. :D
m64 - chirpaLuminaryThose modules are for the Sparc processor (Duo/NV), and are not compatible with the x86 processors (NVX/Pro). They would need to be recompiled for x86.
You can find some info like the GPL download for the kernel sources from here: viewtopic.php?p=155733#p155733 viewtopic.php?f=35&t=26468 if you want to tackle it further. - master64AspirantThank you very much...for your quick reply...i imagine that the problem was the different processor between the two ReadyNAS..
I will see tomorrow morning your useful info..because now here is late in the night..and i should go to sleep because tomorrow it's another hard working day..
thank you again..
m64 - nasolopenziAspirantHi!
Trying to insmod, usb works, but ftdt doesn't, i get the:
insmod: error inserting ''ftdsi_sio.ko': -1 Invalid module format
Why?
