OS 6.9 or iDrive on ReadyNas Pro - crashed my NAS?

Hi all,

I have upgraded my ReadyNas Pro 6 CPU to an E7600 and to 4 GB Ram (and flashed the latest BiOS in the process). I was happily running OS 6.7.1 until yesterday.

It was going well - but yesterday I made two changes: (i) I upgraded to OS 6.9 and (ii) I installed iDrive on the NAS ( I used the ReadyNAS316 build). iDrive installed fine and was running OK. But something has gone haywire. This morning the NAS was reporting 4 of 6 drives failed and data degraded. The drives seems to be fine and I've done a factory reset. But the data is gone. CPU is running fine and temp etc is good so I think it may be the new firmware or iDrive software that is the problem.

Has anyone else with a similar system upgraded to OS 6.9 yet? Any ideas?

    Hi ccbnz

I would like advice to patiently wait for any recommendations from our community members that have tried the same configuration (please note that this config is not supported).

As for iDrive the developer should handle the support.

Factory reset have resolved the issue but I would advise to still observe the drives as it was reported as failing.

  • I have been happily running 6.9.0 for a week or so and no problems there. It appears that the problem was with an incorrect version of iDrive for my NAS.

iDrive has recommended their Linux scripts:

    https://www.idrive.com/online-backup-linux

But they say that the requirements are:

    System/Software Requirements
    Linux(CentOS/Ubuntu/Fedora) - 32-bit/64-bit
    Perl v5.8 or later

It seems the NAS Linux is Debian V8 (Jessie). Does anyone know if these iDrive scripts will work with Debian?

      Hi ccbnz

Thank you for sharing your resolution and/or workaround. We appreciate your contribution to the community.

it would be better to wait for feedback from other forum members who has the same setup as you have.

Feel free to post any suggestions, questions, recommendations or anything about your NAS that you think needs attention or will help others.

      Regards
