PHP scripts download rather than execute

Hi,

I've installed PHP 5.3.2 on my Ultra 4 using the PHP53 add on from WhoCares? The PHP installation has worked - running php -v from a terminal gives the following:

PHP 5.3.2-1 with Suhosin-Patch (cli) (built: Jun 26 2010 23:10:34)
Copyright (c) 1997-2009 The PHP Group
Zend Engine v2.3.0, Copyright (c) 1998-2010 Zend Technologies
with eAccelerator v0.9.6.1, Copyright (c) 2004-2010 eAccelerator, by eAccelerator

However PHP scripts prompt to download the script rather than being executed.

I think its an Apache problem but have struggled to restart apache:

#sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 restart
Restarting web server: apache2apache2: Could not open configuration file /etc/apache2/apache2.conf: No such file or directory
failed!

Any ideas what is going wrong?

Thanks

Marcus
