Source device doesn't support 'Backup System'

I have received the same error message and contacted support. They are telling me that the "Backup System" Feature is not supported yet I pointed them to the user manual for replicate; document number 202-10774-03 dated July 2013 where it does state it is supported. They also say there is no ETA as to when this will be supported.
Anyone have any ideas as to workarounds - I was looking to do a "Backup Data" instead but that does not support the home directories (per support) because of the new permissions on the home directories...
