ReadyCloud NAS Remote Access after End of Life
Looks like NetGear no-notice place ReadyCloud at end-of-life and disabled the app without offering a substitute. Very poor business practice(s).
So I have no issues accessing my ReadyCloud (RN102) locally but can not via the app whether locally or remotely. Are there any 3rd party apps that will allow remote access to the device? I mainly want to perform file management functions (upload, download, file management and sharing, maybe some admin too).
If there are 3rd party apps that will restore the 'cloud' functionality please recommend and provide some instruction for use.
If this has now become a fancy backup device then what does the community recommend as an alternative to ReadyCloud NAS (do not recommend another NetGear product).

It's been on the banner at the top of the forum page for several months now (late 2022), though it would have been good if they'd sent an email to registered customers.

A VPN is the best path. I use the OpenVPN package built into my Orbi router, with OpenVPN packages on my phone, tablet, and PC. ZeroTier is a similar approach, and can be installed on the NAS. There are instructions here if you google for them with "site:community.netgear.com" in the search string,

None that I know of. WhoCares_ used to host owncloud at rnxtras.com, but that is taken down now.
You could attempt to install owncloud or nextcloud on your own with ssh. But I think a better path would be to install it on an always-on PC that has the shares mapped to a drive letter.

Netgear hasn't introduced a new ReadyNAS product since 2017, so it's pretty clear they've been quiet-quitting the NAS business for a while.
Synology and perhaps Asustor are where I'd start looking if I wanted an entry-level 2-bay NAS. I'd consider QNAP also for something more capable (more bays and more expensive). But I don't own any of these, so this is just a pointer - not a recommendation.
