How do I recover a lost or forgotten administrator password on my ReadyNAS OS 6?
Method 3: OS Re-install
Things to note before performing an OS re-install:
- The admin password and network settings will be reset to their default settings.The default settings for the admin account are:
- Username: admin
- Password: password
- The default network settings are reset to DHCP client (the ReadyNAS will look to a DHCP server to obtain an IP address). If you can no longer access your ReadyNAS by IP address after the OS re-install use the RAIDar tool to find the new IP address.
- The data volume is not affected by performing an OS re-install.

Ohmarr: In addition to resetting the password and network configuration, the OS reinstall will also turn off volume quota. You can re-enable that on the volume settings wheel.
It sounds to me like you saved the old password in your browser and it's sending that to the NAS. Of course, it's wrong, so the NAS thinks you need to reset it.
When I browse to the NAS shares I am being prompted for a password, it is not accepting my password or the defaults after I have run an OS re-install from the boot menu.
