ReadyNAS DUO Bit Torrent Poor download with new connection
Hi All,
Please help me before my NAS goes out the window! I have the Readynas DUO v2 which was plugged into the router from my previous service provider (SKY Broadband) and my internet connection speed was 2meg. I have the BIT Torrent client installed and use this for downloading from the internet; I have had no problems with speed in the past and on average I get around 300kb/s on downloads.
Today I have had a new internet service installed with VFAST and this is a wimax service with an antenna that has a CAT5e cable coming from it into a new router (Netgear WNDR4500). My new internet connection speed is 15meg. I have plugged my ReadyNas into this new router and tried different downloads but now I struggle to get a speed above 5kb/s.
I have tried different cables and 2 different routers (WNDR4500 & WGR614). All give the same result of slow download speeds. I have tried downloading torrent files to my PC directly with Utorrent and I have no issues with speed at all. I have tried connecting the ReadyNas to my existing sky router and it works like it did before but once I connect it to my new connection it struggles badly.
Thanks in advance and I appreciate all help.

- kyle14786AspirantI have a download running which is getting a speed of 2.1kb/s which is basically nothing, I have gone into the genie dashboard and gone to the UPNP page and there is nothing showing in the current portmap table.
- HERBIEOAspirantThen it seems that its not forwarding the port, you will have to manually forward it.
- kyle14786AspirantI have tried to manually forward the port and it does not make any difference to the speed. Do I need to turn off UPNP when manually forwarding a port?
- HERBIEOAspirantIt should not matter if you have manually done it look in the router logs under administration to see if there are incoming connection for the port you are using.
Edit: but you could try disabling upnp in the torrent client and forward it manually see if that makes any differance
don't turn off upnp in the router though. - kyle14786AspirantIn the log it states [LAN access from remote] from 178.128.95.24:51295 to 192.168.1.5:6881, Wednesday, Jun 20,2012 23:44:37
192.168.1.5 being the IP of the readynas and 6881 is the port - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserIf you want to see if uPNP is really opening a port, you can use http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/ to check it.
- HERBIEOAspirantWith wndr4500 router i average between 3mb/s - 6mb/s downloads with uTorrent from windows and transmission on the NAS
so there is no issues with that router. - kyle14786AspirantPort is opening ok.
I have tried using Tranmission and it errors when I try and install it on my NAS. Using utorrent on Windows I do get a download speed of 2mb/s but I really wanted to contine using my readynas with bittorrent. I figured that it worked on my old router so it should work with my new one on a faster connection. - HERBIEOAspirantDid you download the correct version of transmission for your NAS it should be the sparc version.
- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserHave you tried a torrent on your PC? It is possible that your VFAST service is actively interfering with torrents.
OOPS, just saw that you are getting 2 mbs from your PC
