RSYNC over SSH ports
I am waiting on my second Duo for off site Rsync over SSH. I will do a local initial back up but after that it will be small incremental back ups so speed is not an issue.
I have set up my dyndns with the router autoupdating. (I hope).
I have opened port 22 on the router TCP and UDP and pointed it to the fixed ip address of the server.
Is there any other ports that should be opened?
What ports do I need to open to access the actual files on the back up and do I do this thorugh a mapped drive?

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredRsync over SSH is what is used for Rsync over SSH. Rsync over SSH can be enabled using a 3rd party add-on on the Duo (v1) [there's no add-on available for the v2 to enable Rsync over SSH] but it is not supported and performance may be unbearably slow.
To access the actual files it depends on the backup it depends what protocol you want to use.
To access the actual files on the backup to see what's copied successfully you could simply use ReadyNAS Remote: http://www.readynas.com/remote - newbuilderAspirantThanks for the reply.
is remote costly?
How do I know what version of duo I have? - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredShould have mentioned that port 22 is the only port that needs to be opened for Rsync over SSH.
ReadyNAS Remote is free with every ReadyNAS.
The RND2000-100 series is the Duo v1 and the RND2000-200 series is the Duo v2.
The v1 runs RAIDiator 4.1.x and the v2 runs RAIDiator 5.3.x.
ReadyNAS Remote is good in that it doesn't require ports to be opened. Obviously you still have to open the ports for the Rsync over SSH. - newbuilderAspirantAre v1 still available?
I bought the £100 from ebuyer.com and they also have a v2 listed on their site but more expensive. Thanks for all the help.
Is there a v2 workaround for ssh?
I just can't afford the backup subscriptions. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee Retiredv1 is still available, I think at least in some places though it will become increasingly difficult to obtain. Personally, I wouldn't recommend purchasing a v1 unit. If you want Rsync over SSH you really should get a Pro Series device e.g. Pro 4 which has this feature.
The v2 doesn't support Rsync as a feature. Rsync is on the NAS but there's no option for it in the GUI. However if you are comfortable with the Linux command line you could SSH in and set it up manually (this is unsupported). - RogertheswedeAspirantHello, in a similar vein, I have a couple of ReadyNAS Duo's, both V1 and interested ink using Rsync over SSH for the reasons noted in the thread. Any idea where I can get the third party add-on? Are any recommended in particular?
Many thanks - dajamesAspirant

In case you haven't found it yet, it's here: http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=29688
(Sorry, I don't know how to make that clkickable!) - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredAs a precaution links are not clickable for new posters (unfortunately we do get some spammers here). Once you've made enough posts your links should automatically be made clickable.

Well - performance slow - rubbish, just got rsync over ssh as shell script and works perfect - it maxes my ADSL line anyway.
So if somebody compile the Rsync over SSH for ReadyNas NV+ V2 will get my paypal donation!
Thanks - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserHow fast is your ADSL?
