Setting up a Cross Compiler for x86
Hi all,
I'd like to set up a ReaduNas Ultra x86 cross compiler in a Linux laptop in order to compile programs for my ReadyNas.
Which debian version i have to install i386 or ia64 in the laptop.
I found a cross compiler in the howto, but i think it's for sparc, i'm looking for a cross compiler x86 package ? Otherwise, which programs i have to install in the linux laptop ?

- WhoCares_MentorYou don't need a cross compiler to build code for the x86 ReadyNAS boxes. An easier approach would be to install a debootstrapped version of Debian etch and enrich that with the GPL code from Netgear. Then you could build stuff by ssh'ing into the debootstrapped etch system right on your notebook. The only limitation would be kernel modules for even the debootstrapped etch would run on whatever kernel the base Linux on your notebook uses.
-Stefan - neoneroAspirantThe kernel version in the ReadyNas Ultra 2 : Linux NAS 2.6.37.6.RNx86_64.2.1
The Linux version is : x86_64 GNU/Linux
If i'm right i have to install a 64 bit version of Debian etch in the laptop ?
What is a debootstarpped ? How to enrich it with the gpl code from netgear ?
Thank's - WhoCares_MentorNope, although the kernel is 64 bit most of the apps are 32bit, so you're better off to install a regular i386 version of etch. As for debootstrapping: the original homepage of my preferred howto isn't available anymore or so at least it seems. So try Google with "debian debootstrap" which should give plenty of pointers.
