Torrent downloads crash device
Hello,
I have a Readynas Duo with a 1TB samsung spinpoint drive.
Modem/Router is Netgear DG834GT with DGTeam firmware version 848
When downloading a torrent my nas regularly hangs. This can happen anytime between a few seconds to a few hours of downloading.. When the crash happens I can still power down the nas by holding down the button on the front but I can't access the nas at all through the web interface.. The nas also doesn't show up in Raidar. I'm inclined to think the router isn't the problem as I don't have the problem when downloading on my pc, also it didn't happen with my previous nas.
The problems seems to worsen if the torrent has more seeders/peers.
The problem also happens using transmission.
Any suggestions anyone?
Cheers,
Rob.

- kemaAspirantFun I have exactly the same problem, and it startet when I installed my 1tb harddisk, could that be the problem??? Well I can't use my bittorent at all if it's turned on it will freeze after a couple of minuttes, does anyone have a solution on this issue?
- chirpaLuminaryIf you disconnect/reconnect the network cable, can you reach it? It is possible the high number of connections is overwhelming your router, causing the connection problems.

No that doesn't work. The nas doesn't show up in raidar, and I can't ping it either (nas has a static ip address). To be honest I'd given up using it for downloading torrents which is pretty frustrating as thats one of the reasons I bought it.
i did think that the number of connections could be an issue. Thats why I installed Transmission as it has the ability to modify the number of connections, but these are set to a pretty small number by default.
I'll set something downloading tonight and see if anything shows up in the logs..
Incidentally, this happens on firmware 4.1.4 T70 and 4.1.5 - kemaAspirantI deleted my torrents and reintalled bittorrent and now its working just fine:
- RobW1AspirantPredictably mine seems to be behaving itself now
I had changed my setup around a bit since I last tried torrents (nas into a switch instead
of directly into router).. I'll keep an eye on things... - SnodlanderAspirantI have the same problem and have been repeating it regularly tonight trying to resolve.
Using Transmission and on the latest versions of everything (NV+ firmware, Transmission, PHP)
I start a single download and after a seemingly random length of time the NAS drops off the network and will not respond to Ping.
It is definitely being caused by either Transmission, PHP, or a combination of the 2.
I have now disabled both of these (after 5 or 6 NAS lockups and having to manually reboot each time) and am back to using the built-in Bit Torrent client.
I would like a resolution to this as I do prefer Transmission.
Any troubleshooting tips that you can suggest I am willing to try.
Let me know.
Thanks. - PhillanAspirantHi!
I have the same problem but with the BitTorrent AddOn, v1.3. After running a few torrents for a while the entire ReadyNas Duo disappears from the network and I can't access it again. It is not even connected to the router, Netgear WNR1000, since it doesn't show in attached devices.
I updated the entire firmware yesterday (Nov 15th) to the latest version and also installed the Vault patches but now I can't access it at all. Have tried to reboot the device several times but I still can't get it to connect to the network.
Edit:
After updating the firmware, RAIDiator v 4.1.6 and ReadyNas Vault v1.1.2, I could access the device and the torrents started downloading. I started to burn a DVD from an iso-file located on the Nas and in the middle of the burn the ReadyNas just dropped from the network and now I can't access it again, it just won't connect to the network. The act-led on the ReadyNas flashes irregularily, what does that mean? Can't find any info on that in the documentation.
Anyone got a tip for me to try?
Thanks for any help!
Johan - SnodlanderAspirantI'm still having this issue, less often than with Transmission, but still just as painfully with the Bittorrent add in.
Can anyone out there give me any troubleshooting tips or things to try that might resolve the issue?
It is really annoying having to manually power cycle my ReadyNAS after it just drops off of the network!!
Please!! This is driving me insane!! - PhillanAspirantHi!
My problems just stopped... Maybe since I don't download as much as I did when I had the problems but I can download without the NAS drops from the network. All I did was to completely remove the BitTorrent add in and installed it again, but I guess you've already tried this...
A strange problem with no apparent solution... - SnodlanderAspirantI am still having this issue and have seen it cropping up in new threads now too so clearly it is widespread.
Can someone from council please focus their attention on this issue???
