- StewieG1AspirantThanks for publishing the offline expansion instructions!!! i was stuck at 10.9TB with a constant "expansion failed" error... following these instructions fixed my issues without a factory reset!!! :)

Are we going to see support from Netgear soon ?
if you want to install non supported programs on your readynas... i guess netgear's silence is telling you to "do so at your own risk" or possibly "get some linux skills" :) or both... either way you need to know how to give the jedi's the relevant info they need to be able to fix the problem mate... log files etc.... the readynas runs debian.... install ubuntu, have a play, once you are comfy compiling stuff and creating a build environment... then install straight out debian with no gui on a pc.... a throw away pc! :) and then have more of a play around!... it will help you greatly young skywalker. - hmm, is this normal?
sauron:~# umount /c
umount: /c: not mounted
sauron:~# e2fsck -f /dev/c/c

/dev/c/c is mounted.

I needed to umount those too - vr_driverAspirantHello, sorry to dig this up as it's 12 months old, but how have people gone with this?
Is this information still current? Have Netgear released a fix for this officially yet? - zanandeAspirantI did this operation 2 times without problems,
with readynas 6 (6*3To and 6*2To)
I did replace 2*2To disk by 2*4To
then offline expansion's not working for the first time for me :
"Attempt to write block to filesystem resulted in short write while trying to resize /dev/c/c"
no damage to the filesystem,
but blocked even with offline expansion...
I don't know if it's because of new Radiator (4.2.26),
or because of 4To disk. I tried an apgt upgrade. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredIt is not a good idea to do an apt-get upgrade.
You cannot expand beyond 16TB. You need to do a factory default with the drives in place.
If you attempt offline expansion to overcome the 8TB limit make sure you are not trying to expand past 16TB. Also backup your data first so if things do go wrong you have something to fall back to.
ReadyNAS OS 6 does not have these expansion limitations. - zanandeAspirantok for the update;
My volume is not beyond 16Tb, I got 9Tb and want to go 11TB.
I should only have the 8Tb limit, that is why i tried offline expansion.
But this time it's not working. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserCan you tell us your starting point more clearly? "6*3To and 6*2To" doesn't make any sense.
- zanandeAspirantyes, sorry,
I got 2 READYNAS 6
one 6*2To, i already had to do an offline expansion
and one other 6*3To, i did also an offline expansion
both without any problems
now i got 2*4To disk, so I tried to replace 2*2To in the first NAS
the 4To disk are well recognized (Western Digital RED)
but I got this error, i tried several times,
no problem with FSCHK but still
thanks, - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserSo you have 6x2TB, and tried to go to 4x2TB+2x4TB. Which ought to be 10 to 12 TB.
Did you initially have 1x2TB, or did you do the initial factory reset with 6x2TB installed?
You are running xraid2 with single redundancy?
