6.2.0 upgrade problems on RN104
Since upgrading my RN104 to 6.2.0 I've had similar problems to those listed by other users:
- Unable to shutdown or reboot. Display shows appropriate message and power button LED flashes, but nothing actually happens.
- Device randomly goes offline while being used.
- Device stops responding to power button.
I've done the boot menu OS Reinstall, but no change. The logs show nothing of interest whatsoever (other than 3 of the disks being over 95% full, which I am currently rectifying by moving some files to drive 4) and don't even mention the fact that the OS has been upgraded, which seems a bit of an oversight if you ask me!
Should I go for the factory reset or is it worth giving 6.2.1-RC2 a try as per this thread: http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=65&t=78850? All 4 drives are backed up but I'd rather not have to spend a week reinstalling everything if I can avoid it.

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredCoW is disabled automatically on shares created AFTER the upgrade to 6.2. On all prior firmware new shares have CoW enabled by default.

What do you mean? I thought bitrot protection COW only became an option from 6.2. as opposed to COW snapshots - StephenBGuru - Experienced User
CoW was used in all OS6 releases - it is essential for snapshots.vandermerwe wrote: mdgm wrote: On all prior firmware new shares have CoW enabled by default.

But starting with 6.2, toggling bitrot protection also toggles CoW. if CoW is disabled, then it is enabled when the snapshot is taken, and then immediately disabled after the snapshot is completed. - BabbageAspirantSomething else weird is now happening, which could be a drive failing or a firmware problem for all I know.
I'm using JBOD mode and drive 4 has 2.12TB used, 619GB free of 2.72TB, but if I try to copy anything to it the transfer rate slows right down then I get a "disk full" error. I've tried with 2 different PCs and with both direct file copying via Windows Explorer / TeraCopy, and using ViceVersa Pro backup software. The other 3 drives have about 200GB free each and I have no trouble copying files to them.
All 4 drives are backed up to individual drives via a USB caddy connected to a PC. I previously used drive 4 to backup drive 3 and it was about 95% full before I deleted everything and started using it as a data drive in its own right, so it was definitely working OK until recently.
It occurs to me that 2.12TB is close to the 2.2TB limit of an MBR partition, which would make sense if this drive was in my PC but I have no idea how this is handled by the ReadyNAS OS using EXT4. Perhaps I should format drive 4 anyway and restore the files, unless anyone has any suggestions? - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserRN104 internal drives use BTRFS format, not EXT4.
I'm not sure what is happening, but I don't think it has anything to do with MBR.
What firmware is running in your NAS? - vandermerweMasterWere you using snapshots on the volume on drive 4?
- BabbageAspirantBTRFS, eh? Shows what I know! When things were working fine I was running whatever 6.1.x version for the RN104 came before 6.2.0 was released, and had 6.2.1 RC2 installed when I first noticed the problem. I've updated to the official release today without any improvement.
Snapshots are not enabled. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredBabbage sounds like you might need to do a balance or possibly a defrag.
Can you send me your logs (see the Sending Logs) link in my sig? This should help me identify which you need.
In 6.2.0 (and later) we now have scheduled volume maintenance options. - BabbageAspirantWell hilariously, I've just tried to log into the NAS and it isn't responding, even after manually switching it off and on again. Looks like I need to hit the boot menu OS reinstall again but I have to go to bed now, so I'll give it another try tomorrow and see if I can send you the logs.
- BabbageAspirantLogs sent, thanks. I was able to log in again after leaving the NAS off overnight, no need to reinstall the firmware. The "disk full" problem remains.
