-you can only set the owner to a windows username if you also create a user account on the NAS which uses that same name.
-The c volume is only available to the admin user (by design). So \\bob\c\mediapath requires you to log in with NAS admin credentials.
-Did you try resetting the file permissions/owners via the advanced options tab for each share?
I believe the NAS itself is ok. You can try a file system check or a volume scrub. What firmware are you running? About how long has it been running?
