You will be able to access the USB over SMB,NFS,AFP, etc. (just like any other share on your NAS). If you go to the GUI of the NAS, make sure the network service (typically SMB) is enabled on the USB device. Hereafter, you should be able to browse to it (using Windows explorer):
\\ipofyournas\nameoftheusb
You can see the name of the USB in the GUI. It is called something like USB_HDD1.
