There are at least three things that you need to consider independent of how you plan to access your device remotely:
- Any means of accessing your ReadyNAS from a remote location will involve knowing the current IP address of your home internet connection which is changing from time to time. You will need to find a service that handles this task for you. Also, your Windows configuration will need to be updated accordingly whenever your home IP address changes.
- Your home router will need to be configured so a connection attempt from outside your LAN will be redirected to your ReadyNAS.
- You need to make sure that the whole process is secure as with the topic above you are creating a door for someone from outside to access devices within your LAN.
I know the ReadyCLOUD Desktop App is not the same as having your ReadyNAS appear as a network drive within the Windows Explorer. However, this software eliminates the need to worry about all of the issues mentioned above.
Also, just to clarify: The ReadyCLOUD App is not for syncing only. You can access all your data remotely at any time.
Bye,
Eskender
