Active Directory Local Groups

I have successfully joined the domain on my ReadyNAS Pro 6 and have created a read/write share.

Microsoft recommends AGLP - Accounts go in Global groups, Global groups go in Local group and Local groups are assigned to Permissions. Normally a member server of a Windows 2003 domain can use AD local groups on their file permissions.

When I map the share I created, right click the root folder and then click Properties. I click on the Permissions tab and then click Add. What I see is that I cannot add any local groups to the file security. The only thing listed are global groups. Using global groups isn't good since you need to change the file ACLs if you ever add a new trusted domain. With local groups you can simply add the required global groups into the local group and not need to change the ACL.

When I go into the group manager I can see both the global and local groups listed. The global groups show the domain members, but the local groups appear empty even though it should contain the global group (as it does on the domain).

Am I doing something wrong or is the NetGear OS unable to use local groups from a domain? Is it possible to create local groups on the NetGear and then add the domain local groups to it?

Thanks,

Trevor
