No need to use a crossover cable for a direct-connect. An ordinary ethernet cable works fine as the NIC is auto-sensing.
Rsync has to compare the file on the source and destination then it only transfers the changes to the file across. This can make the job appear to be a lot slower than it really is. Also the 1100 has a slow CPU.
Hello,
Thank you fro the response back. I tried regular ethernet cable as well and on the ethernet 2 port interface I do see a 1000mbit connection. Below are the answers to your questions
What speed do you get if you use say a NFS backup job?
I get about 11 mb/s sometimes even faster. Even transferring file from nas to my pc I get 13mb/s bursts upto 21mb/s
How much RAM is in the 1100 units?
I beleive 512mb, I think thats what they came with. Is upgrading the ram as simple as just swapping out the memory?
When did you purchase the 1100 units?
The units are about 3 yrs old. However they do have a new hard drives. The reason that I even noticed the transfer rate is because I upgraded one of them with 4 sets of 2TB hard drive (hdd are 7200 rpm 64mb cache), and when I went to transfer everything from the other nas to the upgraded hdd nas.
Thank you again for trying to help.
