Backup not working
I haven't run my regular backup jobs for a month. In that time I have:
Replaced disk #1 after failure & resynced
Replaced disk #2 after failure & resynced
Upgraded to version 4 of FrontView
None of my previously existing Remote: Windows (NAS/Timestamp) backup jobs work. I get an "unable to access remote share" error.
I have tried:
1) Resetting up the backup job - still get "unable to acess" error
2) Swapping forward slashes for back slashes - still get error
3) Verified the backup locations are reachable from other locations on my Windows network.
Attached is a snippet from one of my backup jobs. Any help would be appreciated:

- ewokNETGEAR ExpertWhat is the source machine's OS?
Is there any password protection used on these remote shares? - mattmcl1AspirantIt is happening with 2 Windows XP home machines and also a Buffalo Network Attached Storage. There is no password protection on the remote shares.
- ewokNETGEAR ExpertTry using the IP addresses and see if that makes a difference.

Unfortunately this doesn't work either...
I can open the following address from both of my XP machines on my home network by simply using Start-->Run: \\192.168.15.98\share\media
Yet neither of these work as a "Remote: Windows/NAS (Timestamp)" source or destination:
\\192.168.15.98\share\media
//192.168.15.98/share/media
Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks! - gibsonmbAspirantI am having the same problem but slighlty more complex. After ungrading, one backup on each XP machine worked OK. SInce then I get the same error messages as others in this thread. The 'test connection' buttom just gives "error connecting to...". Also, in the previous verison, I could view the log of the backup as it progressed. Now I can only see the log of the previously completed backup when I try to look at the look as the new back up is progressing. Is there a system log I can look at to see what is failing when I press the "test connection"?
Mike - ewokNETGEAR ExpertOne of our engineers has been able to reproduce a similar problem. We will investigate and let you know.

Great - thanks for letting me know. Looking forward to a fix! - rsg1AspirantI am also getting this failure, despite the 'test connection' working! Furthermore other shares on the disk concerned (which is attached to a PC) have worked fine.

[edit] I fixed this by adding 'everyone' to the share access permissions using the Vista PC to which the source drive is attached. This is despite the share already having my user as a permitted accessee and also Frontview backup reporting that the test connection was successful using my credentials and password. - ewokNETGEAR Expertmattmcl1,
Try using a username and password in the backup job for the remote share and see if it works. There may be an issue with how the Backup Manager is handling guest access to remote shares. - mattmcl1Aspirant

I am not really sure how to do this when my shares are open for public access on my home network. Are you saying that I should password protect them and then try?
