Backup Target Size vs. Source

No, but you can create backup jobs for different shares, which would let you do a subset of the files.
If you have a pc connected with ethernet, you could also use something like FreeFileSync to selectively back up files over the network (connecting the drive to the PC).

Thanks for that info. I guess I under-sized the target drive. Should have checked here first and saved myself 70 bucks..! Is there anyway to span the backup across multiple external usb drives...?
