dropbox is possible, but last time I checked google was not providing drive software for linux.

crashplan works on the x86 platforms, and I suspect it would be a better solution.
  • Why should Google or Linux or anyone else provide Drive software for Linux?
Google Drive API is HTTP so can be used on any platform where is possible to issue HTTP requests. It is solely down to Netgear to implement Google Drive backup the way they did with Dropbox.
Stupid decision from Netgear not to include apps at least for the major cloud drives like Google Drive and One Drive and also FTP and likes, they are forcing people to go with other brands. I.e. Synology has a very good backup solution even in their cheapest hardware, it is very easy to back up your NAS to an off site location, including Google Drive.

It'd be much better if Google provided a library for linux. Google Drive is proprietary, and Google could change it at any time in ways that are not compatible older versions. Just my opinion.
  • Synology and QNAP added support for Google Drive in March and OneDrive is about to be released.
And this is official support, no 3de party plugin.
So why can not Netgear develop something useful inhouse instead of providing press releases like: "NETGEAR REVOLUTIONIZES CONNECTED STORAGE AND DATA PROTECTION WITH NEW READYNAS PRODUCTS" without contents.

I will most likely replace my Ultra 4 with a Synology DS414
  • This is an interesting read. Thinking about my next NAS and if I have unlimited onedrive now that's a game changer.
  • I just bought a 314, and am disappointed in the cloud backup options. I'm going to have to think about my next purchase...
