Boot FS check really slow, w/ one "gray" disk
Hey, I've a ReadyNAS NV+ w/ 4x1TB X-RAID and version=3.01c1-p4 firmware loaded. It (fiiiinally) started acting squirrely this year...my fault...I had to rearrange my office, and took the NAS off ...

Ah, you're right. New boot options were added in RAIDiator 4.x including the option to skip the volume check and to boot into tech support mode. One of the reasons why sticking on such old firmware is not a good idea. It makes it much more difficult to troubleshoot an issue like this should it arise.
It might be best to power down, remove your disks (label order), connect them up to an internal SATA port in your PC and test them e.g. using SeaTools for SeaGate disks, WD LifeGuard Diagnostics for WD disks etc.
Do you have a backup?
