Booting sticking 99%

I have a NAS with 3 bays used, I have taken out a drive of another Netgear NAS I am upgrading and placed it in the spare slot, I looked on the volume information and it give me 2, the correct 1 with data and the one on the 4th disk with 0 data, it told me to destroy the volume information on disk 4 so it could bring it in the the current volume. I did that, the system then hung and when I tried to reboot it sticks on 99%.

The thinks I have tried are it's running 6.6.1,

    1. removing the 4th disk and rebooting, same thing happens.

    2. Createding a USB recovery disk, followd the instructions and sticks on USB Recovery.

Is there anything else I can do?

Thanks

Darrin.

  • Solved, reinstalling the OS worked. I believe is was the AntiVirus that was the problem.  Thanks for the help.  Darrin.

This is not an issue with the firmware on the internal flash so doing USB Boot Recovery is pointless. USB Boot Recovery is not a "magic" fix to any and/every problem but rather something that is rarely, but sometimes appropriate to use.

Do you have a backup of your data?

      Hi,

No I do not have a backup of my data, stupid I know but I did not have 4TB lying around.  According to the Raidar the disks are good but the status is 'Management service is offline'  I do have apps running on the server MySQL, Anti virious and PHPAdmin, I thought using USB recovory would remove them if they are the problem.

      Thanks

      Hello DarrinJH,

Have you tried Volume Read Only from the boot menu?

      Regards,

        Hi JennC,

Yes, tried that yesterday, it checked the filing system and that was ok.  I tried 1 disk in and it still stuck, Next I'm going to reinstall the OS.  I do have a question, if I put an unrelated disk in and performa factory reset and then put the already configured volumes in with the box recognise the Volume?

        Thanks

        Darrin.
