Browser and Finder access problems
Model: ReadyNAS NV+ - tried typing it in, but it wasn't accepted. Computer: Mac Mini, OS: OS 10.9.5. Three User accounts on the machine: 'Admin' (the only one with admin privileges), 'Username',...

Thanks very much for getting back to me so quickly.
Yes, the password is held for me in Dashlane. It's a random string.
Ah yes, that could well be the browser issue. The firmware is 4.1.8. On the newer box I have, it's 5.3.8. Should they be the same? If so, how do I update it, please?
This won't solve the issue of not being able to access it in the Finder in other accounts though. I'd assumed what I had was two different aspects of the same problem, but they could well be two unrelated problems!
Cheers

Thanks Jen. I think I may have not made clear that the 'Admin' account I'm talking about is the Mac's User account, and not the 'admin' username for the NAS box.
I do know the password. It just doesn't work! The only place it does work is in the Finder in one of the User Accounts, but not in the others, and not in the browser in any account. By contrast, my ReadyNAS NV+ V2 box works fine in both browser and Finder on all User accounts, and the password is saved in the keychain, as well as in Dashlane.
Cheers

Well, if you want to log into the browser you need to use the NAS accounts.
You can't connect in finder or the web using the MAC admin account credentials, unless you match the password to the NAS admin password.
For user accounts, it's also best to match the passwords. The other option is to enable guest access in the NAS.

Hello colmosiris,
NV+ v1 is 4.1.x and NV+v2 is 5.3.x, they are definitely not the same. You cannot use disks from v1 on a v2 unit expecting that data are intact.
So, you are trying to access the v1 admin page and admin password does not work? Default password is password, username will always be admin (lower case). Have you tried that? If you can back up all the data, please do. Then try to use the How do I recover the administrator password for my ReadyNAS Ultra series, Ultra Plus series, NVX Pioneer, or Pro Pioneer storage system? article I sent a while ago, this does not remove the existing user accounts but will reset the password to default and if you end up doing the OS reinstall, it still won't remove the existing users, will just reset the admin password and if the NAS is using a static LAN IP address, it will put it back to DHCP.
The idea of backing up all data is in case you end up getting the same problem, last resort is factory reset.
Regards,

Thanks JennC. No, I'm not trying to swap disks between boxes, I just wasn't sure what the latest FW update was for my box, and I didn't realise that it would have to be 4.1.something. So what is the latest, please? I have 4.1.8. And if that's not the latest, how do I update it?
I don't think I need to recover the password, because I already know what it is. The problem is that, other than in the Finder in one user account, it doesn't work. If it didn't work at all, yes, I would have to recover it. For the record, it is "7lMZVRs8NNINyBULbpwX-" (for username 'admin'), and yes, I will change it when I get this sorted! :)
There is data I cannot access on this box, as there are other shares than 'home', which I can't see at all. And into 'home', I have just backed up a 1TB drive which was on its last legs, and has now failed. I don't have a spare 1TB drive to copy to, though I will get one if it is absolutely the only way.
I think it's probably more important to be able to access this box through the browser first, and then worry about the Finder later. It's just annoying that until this is sorted, the 1TB of data I copied is unusable where I need it, i.e. in one of my other user accounts, the one I use for testing.
Cheers
PS. I notice you quoting me, and I can't see how to do that, nor how to see the message I'm replying to when I'm doing it. How do I do those things, please? :)

Thanks StephenB. Yes, I do realise there is a difference between the Mac's uer accounts, and any on the NAS box. It is the NAS username/password that is the problem. It works in the Finder in one of my Mac user accounts [1], and not in the others. And it doesn't work in the browser in any of the Mac user accounts. This NAS box only has one user, 'admin'.
[1] I get the untitled dialogue box that says 'Enter your name and password for the server "NAS (AFP)", and I can connect as 'Guest' or as 'Registered User'. So I select 'Registered User', type in the username, "admin", and the password, "7lMZVRs8NNINyBULbpwX-", and then click 'Connect'. (The checkbox 'Remember this password in my keychain' is checked.) In one Mac User account, this works, and in the others, it doesn't.
If I select 'Guest', the connection fails, and the dialogue goes away, but if I select 'admin', and give its correct password, it fails, but the dialogue wobbles and stays.

To answer a couple of your questions:
-The current NAS software for your NV+ is 4.1.14. There is also "beta" firmware (4.1.15-T3) that adds a couple of security patches.
-OS reinstall is described on page 23 of the hardware manual: http://www.readynas.com/download/documentation/HM/Duov1_NV%2Bv1_HW_en_06Dec11.pdf
It will reset the admin pass of the NAS to netgear1, and also reset the IP address configuration to use DHCP.
If you've tried https://nasipaddress/admin in your browser, and can't log in, then that might be a needed step.
-I'm not a mac user, so I can't help sort OSX password/keychain issues.
