Can I factory reset the NAS without loosing data?
I have a ReadyNAS Duo (sparc, V1) with two 2TB drives, with Flex RAID-0 (no backup). I have SSH and apt-get enabled. I won't lie to you, I played with it quite a bit ;) I won't go into too much det...

Why Flash drive?
There are plenty of USB external HDD`s in the market up to 4TB in size...
Also its generally good idea to own one, to create regular backups at certain intervals , aslo USB HDD is pretty mobile so you could easily keep your "weekly" backup offsite for extended security.

Now when I think about it, my main problem right now is that apt-get/dpkg is not working. Does anyone know how/if it can be reset? To clean all the cache and data downloaded so far, and download everything afresh.
You need probably re-install that addon as Sparc units dont have apt-get bundled in firmware by default.
