Can not delete or rename files after backup

This share access & files setup on the ReadyNAS is really starting to annoy me.

After a week of trying to work it out I finally thought I had it sussed when it appeared that I had read & write access to all my files & folders.

I then created a backup schedule to transfer data from an external hardrive, as I thought this would be the best way avoiding clogging up my wireless network on my laptop.

I transfered photos to the pictures folder in the media share and this is where I seem to have my problems as Bit torrent, Music & Videos are not restricted.

The problem seems to be with any child folders within the pictures folder
I can add files, delete, rename etc to the pictures folder but not to any folders that I previously backed up.

Any ideas on how to sort this out?

Model: ReadyNAS Ultra 6 Plus [X-RAID2]
Firmware: RAIDiator 4.2.17
Memory: 1024 MB [6-6-6-18 DDR2]

Thanks

  • I have noticed that the folders that are locked happen to be folders that I created or altered in the external hardrive whilst attatched to the NAS (attached so I could access the drive over the network)

I suspect that I would not have this problem if the hardrive was attached to my pc rather than the NAs when I created these folders.

I can't undertstand why the Bittorrent & music folders are OK even though I backed those up as well from the external hardrive.
The only difference was that I did not change any files whilst attached to the NAs when I backed the Bittorrent & music files

Is this a bug or something?

What filesystem is on the USB drive (can check under Volumes > USB Storage when the USB disk is attached)?

What are the full backup settings you selected for the backup job?

    Filestream is FAT

I have unticked the backup schedule & not ticked anything in the backup options.

exactly the same as I have done for the Music folder which does not have this problem.
  • I fully agree with you on the point where the share and file access of my Readynas is really annoying me.
I can't seem to get the share and file access to my data working smoothly.
    I'm running into numerous errors
    - files in use
    - files not showing in CIFS but available in HTTP and FTP.
    - media share not visible (bug in latest firmware apparently).
    - interoperability between my Windows clients and the NAS shares.
    - Offline files not working

Furthermore, I'm close to becoming an Linux expert (which I don't want b.t.w.), but configuring this thing requires access to the core.

I'm close to selling this thing.

Have you been able to fix these issues or did you sell it already? :-)

Depending on the configuration of your backup job, Frontview backup will try to keep the permissions from the backup source intact. The resulting permissions may or may not be compatible with the users you've created on the NAS. The fastest way to fix this is to use the Advanced Options settings to reset the permissions on the share.
