Cannot access boot menu on ReadyNAS Pro 6

Hi,

I'm experiencing the exact same issue than described in this thread :

https://community.netgear.com/t5/Using-your-ReadyNAS/Cannot-access-boot-menu-on-ReadyNAS-Ultra-6/td-p/845927/page/3

mdgm say it right :

"Well it turns out the unit is fine. The firmware was missing on the internal flash. I fixed that and the system was able to boot up."

My unit is well powering on, and the LED panel shows "ReadyNAS" and the fan speed is high. Raidiator can't detect the unit. I'm pretty sure the hardware is ok.

I was shutting down my ReadyNAS OS 6.4.1 when an outage occurs.

Then I tried everything I can find about "USB Recovery" solutions without success.

The only thing I can say is, when I was able to use my VGA cable (for some reason I can't use the internal motherboard VGA out anymore), I only seen the message "MBR H", similar to

on the top of my screen when I booted up the NAS.

I would like to know how to restore a firmware when it is missing on the internal flash (without connecting a VGA cable).

If somebody (mdgm ? :-)) could help... I really would appreciate it !

Many thanks to anyone who can help (before I put my lovely ReadyNAS to the trash :-( )

(And sorry for my bad english)

Sébastien

  • Glad that USB Boot Recovery resolved the problem. As you found not all USB keys work. So you can have to try a few different keys before you find one that works.

If you power off the system and boot it with no disks installed are you still unable to access the boot menu?
