Cannot access boot menu on ReadyNAS Ultra 6
I have a ReadyNAS Ultra 6 running 4.2.25 with all 6 disks loaded and I cannot get into the boot menu. I followed the instructions here http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/20898#ultra_6_ultr...

I suggested the USB Boot Recovery in case the problem was an issue with the bootloader on the internal flash.
But if the external USB key is bootable it sounds like the issue might be a hardware issue with the reset button.
Have you tried a different USB key?
Do you have any other ReadyNAS units?
I can PM you instructions on how to use the undocumented alternative method to use the boot menu if you like.

mdgm,
I too am having issues with an Ultra 6. At this time it will no longer boot. You turn it on and it just sits on the ReadyNAS logo screen and nothing. The Button in the back no longer gets me the boot menu. The last thing I did was a 1 day memory check from menu which it passed. Shutdown and bang nothing. Prior the unit started hard locking occasionally and then became greater and greater. Tried copying the data off but with 10tb it takes longer than the crash interval. So now I have 6 good drives with data and no nas! Any help on how to get it going to recover my data off the drives? Maybe the boot menu workaround would get me going?

I realise you you wrote specifically to mdgm, but perhaps I can preempt some questions he may have.
Did you do anything with the memory modules? Did you check the seating or anything else?
Can you power down, remove all the drives and label them according to slot number; then If you boot without disks what happens and what does raidar show?
If you have a spare disk, can you then try to access the boot menu with the spare disk in?
When did you purchase the Ultra 6?

Raidiator version 4,2,15
The hard locks started all by themselves. unit had not been touched in years. As the crashes began coming at shorter intervals and at times the unit would crash (herd lock) during boot) I took action. As a level 3 systems engineer I took the unit out and suspected a heat / dust dirt as a potential problem. As I do with servers and other expensive hardware I took the unit apart ad vacummed out the entire unit from top to bottom. I then re-inserted the memory as another potential issue. I also redid the dried out cpu compound while I was at it. I reassembled and then booted. No luck just crashes shortly after boot and raidar access and drive access via network then bam crashed. So I wen into the boot menu and perfomed a memory test only for about 14 hours and it ran a bunch of cyles, did not freeze or show any errors. Rebooted unit and here we are just shows the readynas logo on the dot matrix and nothing else, no network lights either but I assume that comes with a kernel boot.
Called for support as we were not able to get a copy of the data and I guess there is no answers when it comes to out of warranty product, its like they could not compute an answer off their scripts. I asked them to give me my options to get the data off, they provided no solution free or paid (i told them I would pay)
If anyone can help it would be much appreciated.

You should be able to get a data recovery contract with them. Maybe a Netgear mod can help you get a quote for that.

Sorry I forgot to go through your post again. Nothing not pulling the drives not trying to access the boot menu again nothing gives me anything other than the Readynas logo on the screen. Raidar does not see it either nor do I hear it spinning up any drives while they were in.

Have you tried powering off the system, disconnecting the power, waiting a minute or two and reconnecting the power and seeing if you can then access the boot menu?
The unit you have might have a hardware issue.
