Cannot Access NAS from Windows 7 anymore
Firts, Please be kind. First time I have had any problems with the NAS and first post on this forum.
Secondly I am not into network speak so I may give information that you may find of little use
OK. I have a ReadyNAS Duo which up until now has been working perfectly from the day it came out of its box. I use it as my music server for my house. I rip from CD to PC then copy to NAS using windows 7 Explorer, Perfect.
After a long ripping session I was about to set of the transfer to NAS when I was presented with the error that ' Windows cannot access \\NAS-XXXX-XXXX'
I ran diagnostics and it reported the issue
'The remote device or resource won't accept the connection
The device or resource (NAS-XXXXX-XXXXX) is not set up to accept connections on port "The File and printer sharing (SMB)".
Under Network in Windows Explorer. My main PC is shown and the Nas appears and then dissapears, then may come back or not. The Nas always shows up as a Media device and a storage device. My music server software can see, and use, all the content on the \media share
The ONLY change to the network in recent days was replacing my router from an older Netgear to a new D-Link. I tried swapping back but get the same error.
Please help as I have hundreds of CD's ripped to this Nas and will take a LARGE investment in time to replace.
Thanks in advance and if you need anymore information please do not hesitate to ask

- IntricateAspirantAs a solution that worked for me: Stop the Samba add-on then restart it. That cleared up the "won't accept connection" error for me. Good luck.
- COArchitectAspirantI am posting this reply about 2 years after the last reply. I had the same problem as originally described.
Definitely reinstall the OS as a first step. (Some replies also referred to the OS as the firmware - they mean the same.) I believe that how to reinstall the OS is described above, but, if not, it is in the manual. Reinstalling the OS resets the internet protocol and the network connection.
I also had a problem getting the backup button to scroll through the boot menu options, but finally got it to work. I reinstalled the OS once and it did not change the issue. I reinstalled the OS a second time and now my NAS is back on my network and all the attached devices are recognized. - DigitalJayAspirant
Make sure
is activated you will find it under
Services
Standard file Protocol
CIFS, or Common Internet File System, used predominantly by Windows. Mac OS X also supports this protocol though it may be referred to as SMB.
The above box need to be Marked or activated
That will solve the problem.
