Cannot wake ReadyNAS Duo 2
Hi,
I want to be able to wake my readynas. I have ticked the box, in settings on the readynas, that says WOL. I have then downloaded a WOL application and entered the ReadyNAS name (in the format \\xxx-xx-xx-xx) and entered the mac address but the thing won't wake.
I have tried other WOL utilities but the results are the same.
The firewall on my machine is configered to allow the WOL utility transmit
Is there anything else I need to do in settings on the ReadyNAS to get WOL working?
Oh and whilst I am reasonably computer literate you may have to explain certain bits too me.
Thanks

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserThe WoL message is broadcast, so it doesn't need a name or an IP address - just the mac address.

Did you open both port 7 and port 9 in your PC firewall? Are you sending the packet via wifi or wired ethernet?
Also, WoL generally only works on your local LAN. - tomg35AspirantHi
Thanks for the reply. As far as I can tell the ports are open (I did drop the firewall all together which made no difference). I'm sending over my local lan only trying both wired and wifi. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserOk. Did you try a utility that didn't require name/IP?
Using the format \\xxx-xx-xx-xx would be wrong anyway, you'd want just the hostname. - tomg35AspirantOk thanks, I'll try it without the name.
- tomg35AspirantResolved.
The last WOL application I downloaded captures the mac address of the ReadyNAS and interestingly saved it in the format XX-XX-XX etc. When I changed the format to XX:XX:XX it worked first time.
You would have thought that it would have captured the address in the correct format?
Thanks for your help. - darkmarauderAspirantOut of interest what wake on lan application did you use?
- tomg35AspirantHi
The one I'm using is called FugueUp. As posted aboce make sure the mac address displays correctly otherwise it won't work. - StephenBGuru - Experienced User
That seems to be a common issue with these apps. Some want - others : others nothing.tomg35 wrote: ...make sure the mac address displays correctly otherwise it won't work.
