Any 1 tb drive on the hardware compatibility list should be fine. The western digital red series is popular now and has good reviews.
If your data is accessible from the Nas with disk 2 in then you can just add the new disk to slot 1. The volume will then resync which will take several hours. You do not need to move disk 2 to slot 1.
You should always have a backup, particularly during volume changes, resyncs and expansion.
