Can't get Backup to work on Windows 7
I recently upgraded the operating systems on my home PCs to Windows 7 64.
I have a Ready DNS Duo (RND2000). Everything (including backups) worked well with my previous windows version (XP).
I can still access my ReadyNAS shares from windows 7. However, I can't set up a backup from
Frontview (using Remote Windows/NAS (Time stamp). When I set the host and path to something that I have set up as a share on my PCs,
I get the "error connecting " message when testing connection.
I have no problem accessing the same share from my other windows 7 PC.
I get the same error connecting message using my other windows 7 PC.
I have tried altering newtwork settings on windows 7 to no avail.
I guess that this must be a windows 7 network setting problem - is there a simple workaround?

- kornishonAspirantDid you try to start your backup job even if your connection test raised an error ?
Because, i have same problem (error when testing connection) but my backup job is successfully executed. - dgmdgmAspirantNo - the backup fails with the same error in the lof file.
- TomLKAspirantPerfect, I have the same Problem.
Backup from the old Win XP maschine worked.
Since we upgraded to Win 7 64, I cannot connect to the windows share.
The same problem with Win7 32...
Any idea?!
Do I need to change any firewall setting or any authentication setting on the Win7 computers? - TomLKAspirantUpdate after reading 2 hours the forum:
switching off firewall does not work (Win7 Setting)
decreasing encryption level to 56 bit (from 128 bit) does not work
lowering Win7 authentication method does not work
Writing the host, share and path name of the win7 computer in all 2,123,011 variations does not work
not worth to mention: the user has admin privileges and also a password
I have the RAIDiator 4.1.9-T6 [1.00a043] firmware
Please HELP! - TomLKAspirantSomeone from the netgear support took care about my problem (for approx 1 hour!)
The problem and the solution:
The password of the Win7 user and of the NAS user has/had only one digit (number).
Setting up a new user in Win7 with a 4-digit password helped.
Once again and in this public forum: Thanks to netgear for this great support!!!
The ReadyNAS Ultimate 4 is already ordered!!!
THANK YOU !!!!! - bhoth1Aspirantcan you please clarify what you mean new user with a 4 digit password? do you mean letters and 4 digit number or what?
I have been having the same toubles setting this up.
Thanks!! - bhoth1AspirantWe really need a win7 setup tutorial to setup sharing for use with Frontview backup!!
Thanks! - TomLKAspirantFor Clarification:
The password for the test user was "test"
so I guess alphanumerical characters should be ok. - jedAspirant

Thanks!
Precisely - I've been through the software manual, I've read all the posts on here, applied all the suggestions, and am still getting the unable to access remote path message. - readynasdu0AspirantI can confirm that following this thread, I was able to connect to Win 7 64bit after setting a password to my windows User Account.
I also setup Sharing for the folder I wanted to backup for Everyone on Read Only access
