Can't install RAIDar in OS X
Hi, all! Just purchased a ReadyNAS Duo v2 and equipped it with a Western Digital WD20EARX approved drive. I am running OS X 10.5.8 on an Intel 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo iMac with 4 GB of memory. The NAS is attached to an Airport Extreme 802.11n base station, and appears under the "shared disks" header in the list of drives. But I can't get RAIDar installer to work. I first used the disk image on the CD-ROM packed with the NAS. Then I downloaded RAIDar for Mac OS X from the support site (www.ReadyNAS.com/start). Both the disk and the download are RAIDar installer 4.3.4. In each case, I mount the disk image, highlight the "RAIDar installer" icon, then select "open." A dialog box appears asking you to confirm that you want to run the software, and the RAIDar installer icon appears in the dock with a pulsing blue dot as if it is booting. When you click the "open" button in the dialog box, however, the application quits and the RAIDar installed disappears from the dock. I've called Netgear support and they've promised to investigate, but I was wondering if anyone here had a suggestion to overcome this obstacle, which has me stuck at the initial step to install and use the Duo. Thanks for any ideas.

- huskyboy1AspirantDo you have any Firewalls or Antivirus that will prevent any installation?
- jtwohyAspirantMac firewall set to "allow all incoming connections." No anti-virus software.
- huskyboy1AspirantCan you try to install it on a different computer with a MAC OS X 10.5.8 there might be something on your computer that is preventing the RAIDar to be installed.
- rostarnAspirantI have a similar problem here. But my NAS NV+ has been running earlier. After some weeks turned of I try start it last week.
The NAS boots ok and show up under Shared in Finder. When clicking on the row in Finder window it takes some ten seconds "Connecting" then there comes connection error. Some time the row in left column of Finder window disappear.
Neither the RAIDar can find the NAS.
NAS is connected to a Thomson TG784 gateway. - ReadySECUREApprenticerostarn
Is the NAS on the same network as the machines with RAIDar? If the NAS is not on the same network, RAIDar will not be able to discover the ReadyNAS. I have tried discovering a ReadyNAS over a VPN tunnel, and this will not work either. It has to be on the same layer 2 network as the machine running the RAIDar program. Is it on the same layer 2 network?

Installing the utility should as simple as you have explained. I can only imagine that there are either issues with the Macintosh that you are attempting to install this on, or that there is some sort of third party application that is interfering with it. Can you find it by searching through spotlight? If not, try the download from the website here: http://www.readynas.com/download/RAIDar/RAIDar_Mac.dmg
Let me know if it works. - ShakeyBobWillisAspirant+1 on this. Just got a Duo v2. Trying to install on OSX 10.5.8. Nothing happens. No install. I can see the drive on the network just fine. it's just that nothing happens when I click the install icon for RAIDar. I've tried the version on the included disk as well as the downloads off of the online site.
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredUnfortunately there are no new versions of Java for Mac OS X Leopard. It is recommended that if you have a Mac that supports a newer version of Mac OS X that you upgrade the RAM to at least 2GB and update to the newer version of Mac OS X. Of course if you have a PowerPC Mac this will not be possible.
You can try an older version of RAIDar. See http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=336524#p336524
4.1.5 might not be the newest version that works.
You will lose a few bug fixes etc. but a number of things will still work fine. Not sure about whether things will work well with the Duo v2 though. - ShakeyBobWillisAspirantI figured that Leopard was the problem. I have a Windows 7 computer attached to this network too so I setup from there.
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYou only really need RAIDar on one machine (don't even need it on that, but it's nice to have).
If you assign the NAS a static IP address, you can access Frontview by going to https://ip.address.of.nas/admin
You can even advertise the Dashboard over Bonjour so you can go to Bookmarks > Bonjour in Safari then choose your NAS. - ReadySECUREApprenticemdgm is partially right. I recommend having RAIDar on at least one machine. The tool is helpful to understand what your NAS is doing when it's not accessible (during upgrades etc.). It will also be more accurate to display a failed drive. Or if it needs to be placed into tech support mode for support, it will also display the telnet port number that it has chosen. For everyday use; it's not very important. It comes in handy quite often though.
