Change from X-Raid2 to RAID0? [Noob Warning]
Hi guys,
This has probably been asked 100 times but I cant find it in the forum..
I have the ReadyNas Ultra 2. I have been using it with a single 2TB drive which is now at capacity. Moments ago the mailman brought me a new 3TB WD Red and with my geeky excitement I promptly snapped it in to the spare bay.
Now, I was obviously hoping to now have a 5TB NAS with no redundancy. However, as I am now learning, with Xraid enabled, the NAS will automatically mirror the volume. (Right)?
So, my question is, how do I (easily?) change (after the recovery process) change it so I have a 5TB volume with no redundancy?
Thanks Guys.
(PS. Sorry for the Noob question.)
(PPS. I know most of you will tell me I'm an idiot for not using redundancy, but it's mainly for movies and TV, no biggy.)

Just to make me feel confident. If I back up all of my files to the USB HDD, I can then safely proceed with the reset as you have described above.
Jump in with RAIDar, configure networking, plugins, shares and copy it back across?
Yes.dhih93 wrote:
I've seen some talking about modding the V4 raidars to V6... would you recommend or stay away?
RAIDiator to ReadyNAS OS 6 actually.
RAIDar is a client discovery tool you run on your PC/Mac.
If you will be disciplined with backing up your data and need/want the improvements in OS6 then go for it. If OS4 is working fine for you and you don't need stuff from the new OS then stick with that.
Remember if you have issues with OS6 on an OS4 device you could seek help here but if help can't be provided then you would need to do a factory default and restore your data from backup.
If you do try OS6 you can go back to OS4 but that would require another factory default. So whatever you choose you can change your mind later. - dhih93AspirantHi Guys...
Quick one.. I'm in SETUP now... I have the option to go XRAID, FLEX RAID or delete volume.. Do I need to delete the existing volume firts (as above) or can I skip and create a new Flex Volume over it?? - StephenBGuru - Experienced User
I'm not completely sure if you have migrated to OS6 or not (or exactly what you are doing). So its hard to answer.dhih93 wrote: Hi Guys...

OS6 lets you convert from flexraid to xraid2 and back (in most cases without destroying the volume). The raid mode is preserved - keeping whatever redundancy you already have. So if you have redundancy and want to switch to jbod for instance, you need to destroy the volume - or do a full factory reset, which rebuilds everything. - dhih93AspirantThanks Stephen,
I sorted it out, but know I getting 'addon conflicts with another services..' when trying to reinstall my favourite addons. I went with Raidiator 4, but now this is happening, I'm thinking might try OS6.
Where is the best link to the latest version for Legacy models?
Is it worth it/

UPDATE: Think I figured it out.... - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYou got that error because you restored your config backup before re-installing add-ons.
You could do another factory default and this time re-install the add-ons before restoring your config backups.
Or if you accept our Remote Access Policy and are willing to give me Remote Access and let me know what the services are I could remove the lines from /etc/default/services that prevent you from re-installing the add-on. - dhih93AspirantYes, I thought it may have had something to do with config backup. Anyway, it was a good thing. It made me test the water with OS6 and I'm really happy I did. It's like I have a brand new NAS. The GUI is so much nicer.
Quick question though (again), OS6 gives you JBOD which I had no idea about up until 12 hours ago. I created 2 JBOD volumes to keep inline with what you and StephenB were saying about having two RAID0 volumes... Now I'm thinking, JBOD being a different structure, is that needed?
If I made 1 5TB JBOD volume with a 2TB and 3TB drive is that still as vunerable as 1 RAID0 drive should 1 disk fail?
Thanks in advance. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredIf it's a single volume then I would think that is a spanned volume and if either disk fails all data is lost. If you have separate volumes for each disk then if a disk fails only the RAID-0 or JBOD volumes using that disk would be lost.
- StephenBGuru - Experienced Userjbod is what you want. The key advice is not to span multiple disks with a single volume (unless it has at least single-disk redundancy).
- dhih93AspirantThanks Guys,
Yep. I made each disk a separate volume and have separate shares on each.
Now just having trouble setting up Transmission. Gonna search the forums unless you have come across this problem:
Error: Not a directory (\D-NAS\Volume1\Transmission/The Double (2013) [1080p]/The.Double.2013.1080p.BluRay.x264.YIFY.mp4)
Think it might be a permissions thing? - xeltrosApprenticeLinux gives clear errors most of the time.
"Not a directory" means it was expecting a directory but you actually gave him a file name. I don't know in which menu you were to get this error but try with the directory instead of the file and see what happens.
