Changing file and folder ownership

Hi,

I've recently upgraded by ReadyNAS Duo to take 2x2TB drives.

I copied the old files off onto an NTFS partition then have copied them back on again via NFS (to the media share)

Unfortunately, it seems that I can see but can't read the files because of security permissions. I mounted the media share via the command line without any credentials involved prior to copying the items back on but I suspect it has applied some "non guest" permissions to all the files.

The NAS is re-syncing at the moment but is there a way of globally changing all these files and folders in the media share to "I don't care who accesses them" ? Also, is it safe to perform this while the re-sync is active?

Thanks.
DNK

  • To open the file permission for NEW files, follow the steps below:

    Configuring Advance CIFS Permissions:
    1. Go to Share listings
    2. Click Cifs icon of the specific share name
    3. Scroll down and put a check on "Automatically set permissions on new files and folders" under Advance CIFS Permissions.

To open the file permission for EXSISTING files, follow the steps below:

    Configuring Advance Options:
    1. Go to Share listings
    2. Click Cifs icon of the specific share name
    3. Go to Advance Options tab
    4. Share folder owner: (type the share name)
    5. Share folder group: (nogroup)
    6. Put a check on "Set ownership and permission for existing files and folders in this share to the above settings" and click Apply.

    P.S.
After you put a click on the Apply button the check will disappear inside the check box, it's normal because it's an action box.
