common file format iTunes and dlna
I apologise if this has been answered before but this is a minefield and I am struggling tk find answers. New Readynas duo v2 and impressed. Dumped my iTunes library to it, I installed Firefly and am streaming over daap to an android device. I can see the readynas as dlna server from my Panasonic blue ray recorder and play a few sample sound files. I ripped a lot of CDs many years ago using iTunes defaults resulting in m4a files.
Requirements in order of priority:
Stream over dlna or whatever streaming protocol it uses to the pana
Streaming serverr must run on the Readynas
Not to rip my CDs again
Not have two copies of my music library in different formats
minimal lose of fidelity
Any conversion to take as little manual effort as possible
Any CDs ripped going forwards to support the solution with minimal overhead
I guess the ideal is something that sits on the Readynas and converts and streams in real time. I'm struggling to understand why not technically but guess there is no market. BTW I am prepared to pay for the media server add on forf the nas.
So any free consultancy gratefully accepted. Oh and I was a techie many years ago soI may either sound like I know what I am talking about when I don't or like I am trying to be clever. Either way please go easy on me.
Many thanks in advance
Duncan

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserCan you explain what isn't working now?
- MockduncanAspirantFrom the Pana I can see my itunes files but get an error when I try and play. Presumably because m4a is not a supported file format for DLNA

ReadyDLNA doesn't play DRM protected files (e.g., purchased from iTunes), but it will stream unprotected m4a music to my NTV550.
DLNA generally requires support in both the server and the player for each file type/codec. It's possible that the limitation is in the Panasonic. Can you get specs on what it is supposed to play?
