I don't work for Netgear, so I don't have any special info there. Most of Netgear's LTE routers/hotspots seem to be sold through service providers, not to end users.

I don't think it would be locked, But the one you are looking at says it needs a micro-SIM card.

I can report now that I have found a solution for my problem - well, a partial one : I can play music over my Sonos system again. And that was without (yet) buying a new router.
I enabled a DHCP server on my Mac (having installed OS X Server). I set the net mask as 255.255.254.0 to allow access to my wired and wireless networks. With that Sonos devices have been able to access my local network (192.168.2.0) with my music library. I suppose Sonos now looks on my Mac as the router, though my Internet access is still via the Huawei router (on 192.168.3.0).
During the process of setting this up there was one strange effect which I don't understand. At first the Sonos CR100 controller in my living room could only access the ZP90 Zone Player in the same room, all other controllers in other rooms showed a list of all players except the one in the living room. After struggling for a while and running Sonos setup again for the living room player, suddenly all controllers listed all devices. Don't ask me why! I only see that my Sonos system can access my music library on NAS and play music from there, at least from my CR100 controllers and the desktop controller on the Mac - the controller on my iPad doesn't find the players.
However, my joy isn't complete, for, although I can ping sonos.com from my Mac, I cannot execute Sonos software updates (Update Problem: error code 1101) or access radio channels via Sonos (as well as the failure of the iPad's Sonos controller mentioned earlier). I suspect that although I can send messages outwards, they are being lost coming into my networks. I would love to hear any explanation of that that anyone can offer.
