'Convert' Share to LUN to enable iSCSI access
Hi all, I was using my RN2120 as a SMB Share to my HP Microserver exclusive for Plex content. I've now just installed an additional dual NIC in my server, and would like to use the ReadyNAS as iS...
There is a filesystem e.g. NTFS put on the iSCSI LUN
You would need to copy the data to your PC, delete it off the NAS, create the iSCSI target and copy the data back.
If that 5TB of data is all the data you have, then after you copy the data off you may wish to update the firmware, verify the firmware update is successful, do a factory reset, create the iSCSI target, mount it using the initiator on your PC and restore your data from backup.

Just to clarify, I need to:
Copy my data from the SMB Share to my server
Delete the SMB Share
Create a LUN
Connect it to my server
Copy my data back on to the LUN
Yes? Not looking forward to copying the data back and forth again :-(

Unfortunately you need to. iSCSI just provides block storage (a virtual raw disk) for the client to use. That storage is opaque to the NAS. The client needs to format it, etc.
Note that once you do this, you can only access the LUN from one device at a time. NAS backup also will not be incremental, you'll need to do a full backup of the LUN every time. If you want incremental backup you'll need to do that from the client device.
