Crazy data about folder size
I browsed a CIFS shared folder on a ReadyNAS 3100 and the summary data look like: Path: \\nasname\foldername Size: 8.94 GB (9 604 122 967 byte) Size on disk: 8....

Let me understand, disks larger that 2 TB "Are only supported" or "are not supported"?
My physical disk size is 2,7 TB (4 x Seagate ST33000650NS [2794 GB]) and the RAID is RAID X-RAID2.
So the logical volume size is about 8,3 TB.
Is it advisable to upgrade from versione 4.2.22 to 4.2.27 or to 4.2.28, without risking to lose any data?

Hi marius_roma,
As per the compatibility list of hard drives for the ReadyNAS 3100, it shows that the Seagate ST33000650NS which has a capacity of 3TB is supported. You may check this link as reference.
I do not have a ReadyNAS 3100, but for me, the firmware update from v4.2.22 to v4.2.28 should be fine. However, if you are hesitant to update the firmware, then it would be best that you back up your data first.

The release notes in the zip have a mistake. I did inform Skywalker of this, but the correction in the zip hasn't been made yet.
But it is correct on the release announcement web page: http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/30002/~/raidiator-x86-version-4.2.28
Maximum 2TB drive support on 3200/4200 V1 channels 5-12 due to LSI controller limitation.
It is not a new limitation. The 3200 v1 and 4200 v1 products have always supported larger disks on channels 1-4, but been limited to 2 TB with channels 5-12. I don't think this applies to the RN3100. It certainly does not apply to 4.2.x platforms generally.

Thank you to everybody for the whole of your support.
I am confused.
At the moment I cannot perform a backup of my about 8 TB of data (the ReadyNAS is almost full, or at least it is reported to be), I cannot upgrade to version 4.2.28 neither to version 4.2.27.
As the upgrade is necessary to solve the errors related to my original problem ("Crazy data about folder size") can anybody suggest a possible solution with no risk to compromise the data on the ReadyNAS?
Regards
marius

At this point, I suggest contacting support (ask for per-incident support).
